A tree planting Spear is designed for slot or notch planting; to pierce, lever open, plant and then backslot 8” away to remove the air at the roots before firming in. The PLANTEM Spear’s blade also helps cut t-slots or small holes efficiently in heavier or stony soils. As a general guide (each species and site varies) - Conifer saplings: bare-root up to 80cm tall - Broadleaf saplings: to 60cm tall For ‘commercial’ forestry planting or speed planting professionals who plant upwards of 500 per day (usually without guarding) PLANTEM Short Spear may be better suited – lightweight and short/adjustable height for simultaneously cutting and planting bare-root.
